The chart shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommondation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011
The given bar chart compares the ratio of households in owed and rented accommodation in England and Wales in the period from 1918 to 2011.
It is obvious that the trend of the decreasing in households owning accompanying with the increasing in renting accommodation over 93 years. In addition, 1971 was the year in which the number of households owning resembled to renting departement.
In 1918, most of people in England and Wales owned a house, with nearly 80% of total households. However, this number went down over next 73 years to around 32% in 1991. From 1991 to 2011, the ratio of households owning did not considerably change, with a slight increasing to 36% in 2011.
The number of accommodation saw a completely contrast in this period. In 1919, there just around 23% of households in England and Wales was rented accommodation. Over time, this rate of renting gradually went up to 60% in 1981. In the next 40 years, there was a fluctuation in the percentage of rented accommondation between 60% to almost 70% - the highest percentage - in 2001. Finally, the rate of renting households was around 65%, nearly doubled the rate of owning households.
