the chart shows the proportion of people in the UK survey carried out in three different years who said they were interested in certain sports.
The bar chart compares the percentage of respondents expressing their interest in six different kinds of sport in the UK in 1995, 2000, and 2005.
As can be easily seen that soccer was the most popular sport, as opposed to golf, which is the least interesting one. While the number of people who liked football, swimming, and rugby increased slightly over the 10-year period, snooker, tennis, and golf witnessed a downward trend.
Football was the most interesting sport which always constituted the highest level of respondents, at 41% in 1995. The figure increased gradually to 45% in 2005. 20% of surveyed people said that they were interested in swimming in 1995. After experiencing a rise to 39% in 2000, the figure then declined by 2% in 2005. The percentage of people who keen on rugby decreased to 29% in 2000, followed by a significant rise to 37% in 2005.
Compared to 2005, snooker players were less in 1995 but more in the next five years, at 23%. Nearly 30% of players said that they played tennis in the first year surveyed; however, their participation rate dropped to 21% in 2000 and remain stable in the five years later. Golf was known as the least popular sport with only 18% of participants. After falling by 2% in 2000, the figure recovered to 25% in 2005.
