The pie charts compare the typical reasons for using mobile phones answered by one African country's teenagers in the year 2016 to 2019.

Looking at the graph, it readily appears that social networking was the greatest motivation with a percentage of around 50% throughout the period, while phone calls ranked last and lessened at the end. Meanwhile, emailing and photographing kept pretty steady figures.

The data on phone calls fluctuated slightly from 2016 to 2018 with proportions of 10%, 13% and 11% respectively, before experiencing a sharply downward trend in 2019 at 5%. On the contrary, social networks decreased by 2% in 2017 before noticeably rising to 51% in 2018 and 56% by the end of the survey period.

Both email and digital camera followed a clear trend throughout 4 years. After remaining at 15% in the first 2 years, taking photos by mobile phones started becoming a more common reason to use phones illustrated by its increase to 18% and 20% in 2018 and 2019 consecutively. Whereas, emailing via phone gradually dropped from 25% at the beginning of the survey to 24% in 2017, making up 20% in 2018 and 19% by the end.
