According to the first chart, the number of marriages in 1970 were at 2.5 million remained stable during a decade. However the figure declined then, and decreased to 2.3 millon and 2 million in 1990 and 2000 respectively. Unlike this trend, number of divorces increased during the first decade from 1 mln to almost 1.5 mln and then saw a decline reaching its previous figure at 1 mln in 2000.
What stands out from the second chart is that the number of married people decreased by 10 % reaching 60% in 2000. Number of widowed people also declined from 8% by 2% in 2000. However, the figures for never married people and divorced ones rised during the period given in the question. The first figure increased by 5% reaching its highest point in 2000 at 20% while the number of divorced people almost reached to 10% in 2000.
