It is clear that the percentage of expenditure on Food and drink dropped significantly in both countries whereas the figures for utility bills increased. UK residents spent a large percentage of their household budgets on leisure than their New Zealand counterparts.
In 2008, the proportion of household budgets for food and drink in the UK was lower than their New Zealand counterparts, with 23% and 29 % respectively.By 2008, spending on food and drink had fallen slightly to 25% in New Zealand and had dropped dramatically to 13% in the UK. By contrast, both countries experienced a slight rise in expenditure on utility bills for the average home, from 27% to 31% in New Zealand and from 26% to 28% in the UK.
UK residents spent twice as much in relative terms on recreation (34%) as New Zealand citizens (17%) in 2008. In both countries, transport costs and other costs accounted for 15% and 10% of household budget respectively.
