The pie charts illustrate water consumption in 6 different areas across the globe based on three main sectors: Agricultural, domestic and industrial. In most of the areas, the greatest water consumption is due to agricultural demand, while the least is because of domestic demand.
As countries in Europe and North America are industrialized, the percentage of industrial water consumption is not only higher than those of the other four areas but also greater than domestic and agricultural use. In Europe industrial utilization of water with 53% surpasses domestic and agricultural combined with 53%.
On the other hand, African, South American and Asian countries are more likely depending on farming. Therefore, water consumption for agricultural irrigation has the greatest share in this area, ranging between 71% in South America and 88% in Central Asia. Moreover, in Europe and North America, the demand of water for agricultural reasons is 32% and 39% respectively. The domestic use of water is at large in South America with 19 percent. Meanwhile, in the other five areas the range if domestic exploitation is between 7% in both Central and South East Asia and 15% in Europe.
