The charts show the distribution of employment among agriculture, industry (CN) and services in three countries in 1980 and 2020.
The bar charts compare three different nations in terms of the number of people employed in three major sectors - agriculture, industry and services in 1980 and with a projection to 2020.
Overall, it is clear that the figures for services are much higher than those for agriculture and industry for countries A and C, whereas agriculture was the main employment sector in country B.
In 1980, agriculture accounted for the highest rate (about 65%) in country B, compared to 20% and 5% in countries A and C respectively. By contrast, the figure for services during the same period s was higher in country A at 45%, and it was the highest in country C at around 70%. Meanwhile, only 25% of the workforce were employed in the services, which is significantly lower than in the other two countries. Moreover, the percentage of those employed in industry was below 40% in the three given nations in that year.
Looking into the future, the proportion of those employed in services rate is predicted to rise in all three countries. In A and C, it is forecast to increase moderately and should reach around 58% and 80% respectively within 40 years. However, in country B, the percentage of those employed in the services sector is set to double from just over 20% in 1980 to more than 40% in 2020. In addition, it thought that 50% of workers in country B will will be employed in the agricultural sector by 2020, down from approximately 65% in 1980. Furthermore, while around 10% of people will still be working in agriculture in country A in 2020, a mere 1% or 2% of the workforce will be working in agriculture in country C. Finally, the percentage of people working in industry will drop slightly in countries A and C but will double in country B in 2020.
