the charts show the number of marriages and divorces in the USA, 1970-2000 and Marital status of adults Americans, 1970 and 2000.
The first bar chart illustrates how many Americans were married and divorced over a 30-year period from 1970 and 2000 while the second bar chart shows figures for the marital status of adult Americans in 1970 and 2000.
Overall, it is obvious that there was an upward trend in the number of marriages between 1970 to 2000. Most of adult Americans were married in both years, but the level of single adults was higher in 2000.
Looking at the detail, By 1970 there were 2.5 million married Americans. Having remained stable in 1980, the number of marriages fell slightly, reaching around 2.3 million in 1990, and followed by a marginal decline to 2 million in 2000. In contrast, the level of divorces reached a peak at nearly 1.5 million in 1980, Then the figure can be seen a fall to 1 million in 2000, which was the same as the marriages in the first year.
Approximately 70% of adult Americans were married in 1970, then fell by around one-tenth of that number. Regarding unmarried and divorced status, the proportions rose by nearly 10% in 2000. There was a lower number of windowed Americans in 2000 compared to that in 1970.
