City transport mode shares in Asia in 2012

The given table compares the proportion of the use of transportation modes in three different cities, Beijing, Delhi, and Seoul, in 2012. Overall, the most popular mode of transportation in Beijing was private transport, while that of Delhi and Seoul were walking and rail, respectively.

Looking into details, almost one-third of people in Beijing preferred to travel by private vehicles, making them the most popular transportation mode, followed by bus at just about one-fourth as the second place. The next lists were train and cycle, contributing around 15% to the total. Reaching no more than 6%, taxi, walking, and other modes of transportation become the least preferable to be chosen in this city.

In addition, although walking was the most popular in Delhi, accounting for 35%, it was the least popular in the other two cities, only reaching no more than 3%. Chosen by approximately a quarter of the population, walking and private transport came as the second and third rank, respectively, followed by the other modes at less than 6% for each.

Furthermore, in Seoul, train came in first place of the popularity, which was chosen by almost 4 out of 10, followed by bus and private transport at 27% and 23%, respectively. Moreover, the rest of transportation modes were least chosen, only used by less than 5% in this city.
