Essay topics:

The diagram below shows how electricity is generated in a hydroelectric power station. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The diagram below provides information about the way electricity is produced in a hydroelectric power plant.

Overall, as we can see from diagram, the process of water is consisted of 4 main stages including holding the water, transition of water to power station, generating electricity and transportation of water via power lines which has different procedure in day and night.

In the first stage, the water from river is flowing to the high-level reservoir which gathers the water behind the dam. After that, depend on the time, there is a intake below the dam which is open at day and closed at nights. Subsequently, if it is the daylight time, the water is flowed to the plant to produce electricity, whereas it has a reverse direction in the night. In the night, it is pumped by turbines to high-level reservoir. The next step is generation of electricity in generator with the help of turbines which are multi-functional and reversible, and like previous step, it depends on time as well. In the day, these turbines act like generator, and generates electricity energy, while in the night, they pumps water from low-level reservoir to high-level reservoir. Finally, the produced energy is transported by power lines to electricity consumers such as city dwellers or other plants.
