The picture below demonstrates the development of a small insect called cicada.
Overall, the life cycle involve three main stages. These stages revolve around trees and occur over many years.
In the begining, the cicada eggs live inside of tree branches and undergo two to seven months of upbringing, these eggs hatch. In this step, it is commonly called Nymph. Some of them dig holes and live underground in the interim others llive in tunnel which is near tree roots for two to 17 years.
In the third step, the moulting process takes place. The Nymph shed their outer layer within 20 to 150 minutes. After the period of moulting, it is a mature one and commonly called cicada. They usually live and lay eggs on tree trunks. Then, the cycle repeat itself.
