The diagrams give information about three major life stages of salmon, a type of large size fish, from different perspectives such as reproduction, growing to maturity and migration. In general, salmon fish could grow form tiny eggs to as large as seventy-six centimeters and live in at least three different types of water environments.
The life cycle of a salmon starts with small salmon eggs laid by mature fish in slow moving upper river, covered with reeds as well as small stones in case of potential predators. Normally it would take five to six months for a baby salmon referred as ‘fry’ to born. Then, flowing with fast water to the lower river, baby salmons would spend the next approximately 4 years in the lower river until they turn into teenager salmon ‘smolt’.
By the time they reaching the size of twelve to fifteen centimeters, the open sea water with abundant food sources would replace former habitat as a more favorable migration destination for smolt, whose size would grow further to seventy to seventy-six centimeters, and this stage usually takes around 5 years.
After salmon turning into maturity, they would however return to their birthplace, the upper river, to lay eggs for reproduction, and the new life cycle of salmon begins again.
