The diagrams below show the life cycle of a species of large fish called the salmon.
The diagrams depict the circle of life of a salmon from its' eggs stage till adulthood.
Overall, a salmon's life cycle takes about ten years to fully mature from their hatching period, and they spend their lives in three distinct locations – lower river, open sea, and upper river.
First of all, the salmon eggs can be found underneath small stones under the reeds in the upper part of the river. After about 5-6 months, they become a small size fish named a fry, and their length grows about 3-8cm. Once they become a fry, they migrate to the lower part of the river for further nourishment, where the water current is fast. They settle there as their habitat about four years before growing into smolts with a length of 12-15cm long.
In the second phase of their life, they experience approximately five years of living in the open sea. In the final stage of the cycle, the smolts develop into mature fish, with sizes ranging around 70-76cm, called an adult salmon. The adults then again swim to the upper river and lay eggs to start a new cycle.
