The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use.
The two pie charts above illustrate the proportions of energy use in Australian households as well as the rates in greenhouse gas emissions caused by this energy consumption.
The first impression is that in both charts, water heating was accounted for one of the major figures while the least common use was cooling. Another outstanding feature is the interesting differences in heating and other appliances between two sources of statistics.
In particular, Australian families consumed the second biggest amount of energy in water heating which is at 30%. However, the amount of greenhouse gas emissions for this purpose ranked as the top one in relation to others. Additionally, it is of much change in energy use and gas emissions that are for cooling activities which are respectively 2% and 3% here. Although heating stood as the number one energy-consuming source in these households which is at 42%, it only produced 15% of the gas emissions. Similarly but in the opposite direction, other appliances took 15% out of the total energy use but it led consequently to 28% of the greenhouse gas production.
