The given line graph illustrates the goods transported in the United Kingdom by four different modes of transport between the time period of 1974 and 2002.
The provided line graph indicates the number of goods transported, measured in million tonnes, of four different categories, namely, the road, water, rail, pipeline in the United Kingdom, over a 28 years, from 1974 to 2002.
As an overall trend, it is apparently seen that the quantity of the road, water and pipeline figures have increased, whereas the data of the rail has returned to the same level.
In 1974, the number of road stood approximately at 70 million tonnes, then, had a fluctuation until 1998. Following by, it reached to the highest point below 100 million tonnes. Turning to the water trends, between 1974 and 1978, it wasn’t changed, later, started to rise moderately and experienced an oscillation, in 2002, showed above 60 million tonnes.
Regarding rail and pipeline information, they started to show a contrast trend in 1978. Subsequently, the first category showed a fluctuation, while another continued to climb gradually. In 1994, the rail and pipeline figures were at around 27 and 23 million tonnes respectively. However, the next 11 years, the pipeline stagnated, while the data of rail come to the starting period, which was lower two times than the pipeline trend.
