The graph below compares the changes in the birth rates of China and the USA between 1920 and 2000.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The given line graph illustrates a comparison of the Chinese and the US birth rates over 80 years starting from 1920.

As can be seen from the graph, it is clearly evident that the rates witnessed a downward trend and some similarities in two countries.

The birth rates in China registered 10 percent in 1920 before fluctuating to 1935. Later, the figure crashed sharply to 5% in the 1940s and remained stable for 5 years. From 1945 to 1950, the rates reached a peak of a fifth then declined sustainably. Finally, the percentage declined gradually to 3% during the latter half of the century.

A similar trend could be seen in the rates of the USA, as it stood at approximately 10 percent. The 1940s experienced a dramatic decrease from roughly 13 percent to 5 percent. In 1950, it soared to 15 percent and continued to reduce, so for the rest of the period, the rates attracted about 7 percent.
