Overall, the birth rates of both nations decreased significantly over the period of 80 years. Although two trends were similar in terms of a general decline, the birth rates of China in most years was moderately higher than that of USA.
In the year 1920, the China birth rate was about 12%, and that in America was slightly lower, approximately 10. Over the following fifteen years, both rates fluctuated around 12, before decrease rapidly between 1940 and 1945. By 1945, the birth rate of China has declined by around 6, and the USA birth rate had halved to 5%.
A baby boom in the fertility of both two countries was seen from 1945 to 1950, with China’s birth rate reaching a peak of about 15% and the birth rate in the USA rising to roughly 20. However, by the beginning of 1955, the trends had reduced steadily to about 7% and 2% in China and America respectively
