Overall, it can be seen that the amount of energy consumed in the USA had a tendency to slight rise over a period of 50 years. Furthermore, petrol and oil were the most preferred fuels by American consumers.
In 1980, the petrol and oil consumption in the USA was 35 quadrillion, which was nearly twice as much as these figures for natural gas and coal, which were only responsible for 20 and around 15 quadrillion, respectively. Over a 5-decade period, petrol and oil are still the most popular energy compared to others. According to forecast, American citizens can totally consume up to 47 quadrillion in 2030. At the meantime, while natural gas usage is going to steadily increase, reaching at 23 units, the consumption of coal experiences a relatively rapid growth at over 30 units in comparison with the initial data.
Besides, the consumption indexes of the three remaining types of energy were quite similar in the first years until 1990, at around 4 quadrillion. After that, nuclear fuel surpassed other energy to stand at the first position in total consumption in 2030, at 8 units. However, there were no significant changes in the usage of solar or wind and hydropower over the period of 50 years.
