The graph below shows consumption of three spreads
The graph featured in task 1 shows consumption of 3 different spreads over 26 years from 1981 to 2007.
In 1981, the consumption of margarine and butter was especially popular, which resulted in 90 grams of margarine and 140 grams of butter use. Moving to the year 1986, we can see that the consumption of margarine declined to 80 grams while the use of butter spread reached the peak of 160 grams.
In the next years, the popularity of butter spread has dramatically declined which resulted in 100 grams consumption in 1991. As for the margarine use, starting from the year 1986, the consumption gradually rose to 100 grams in 1991. Taking a closer look at the following period, the margarine consumption remained the same, while the use of butter was constantly falling. After the year 1996, the use of margarine spread started to drop drastically and reached the lowest level in 2007 when only 40 grams of the spread was used. Following the data for the butter spread, we can observe that falling trend was continuously presented from 1996 to 2007.
Taking a look at low fat and reduced spread consumption we can notice the figure starting from 1996. The consumption of this spread has drastically risen from 10 grams in 1996 to 80 grams in 200, and after the year 2001, the use of low fat and reduced spread started to drop.
If we analyze the data from the graph we can see that margarine spread demonstrated the most regular trend between customers, despite occasional fluctuations. Over the same period of time, butter spread has shown a decreasing trend in use while the low fat and reduced spread has reached the record level shortly after arriving on the market.
Overall, one can say that the consumption of all three spreads has fluctuated with some regular figures over certain periods.
