Overall, the rate of CD players used in families was highest while the figure for internet access was lowest over the period shown. It is noticeable that there was an upward trend in all the given technologies.
In 1996-1997, CD players accounted for the highest percentage of contemporary technological products used in homes, reaching approximately 60%. In the same year, roughly 30% of households in the UK employed a home computer, which is half the figure for CD players, 11% higher than that of mobile phones.
From that time onward, the rate of CD players and home computers usage experienced a similar growth of roughly 22% over the course of 6 years. In the same pattern, the proportion of mobile phones rose remarkably to about 44% in the first half of the period of 1998 to 2001, before remaining unchanged in the last half. Furthermore, the year 2003 witnessed a significant increase at 70% in the rate of home computer usage in homes, which is 13% higher than the figure for home computers. Meanwhile, the rate of internet usage underwent the fastest growth of 30% in a span of 4 years in comparison to others.
