The recycling rate for the most recycled item paper and cardboard has been between the range of 60% to 70% from 1982 - 2010 with some fluctuations. Initially, the percentage grew by 5% between 1982 - 1986, after which it again depleted by 5% in the period 1986 - 1990. Then it gradually increased and reached a peak with an 80% recycling rate in mid of 1990 - 1994, which later kept on descending until 2010 and reached 70% by then.
Initially, starting in 1982 at 50% recycling rate the glass containers saw a downfall to 40% until reaching 1990's, after which it took a steady increase and reached up to 60% by the year 2010. The Aluminium cans took the start only after 1982 at a slow pace, but it has taken a steep rise over the years and reached to more than 40% recycling rate by the year 2010.
Plastics have seen the lowest of the recycling trend, with its rate ranging between just 0-10% over the years. The recycling of plastics started only after 1986, but it is yet to pick up as compared to other materials in that particular country.
