The graph below shows trends in US meat and poultry consumption.

The graph compares the amount of beef, pork, broilers meat and poultry consumed per capital in US between1955 to 2012.

It can be seen from the graph that beef is the most favorable one in US meals whereas turkey is eaten the least in most of the time. There was an upward trend and downward trend in the consumption of broilers and beef, respectively.

In 1955, on the average, each person in US ate nearly 60 pounds of beef. The figures went up gradually and reach a peak of 90 pounds in 1976. However, the amount of beef consumption reduced considerably in the following years, down to just 50 pounds per person. In contrast, the figures for broiler rose sharply from under 20 pounds in 1960s to roughly 60 pounds in 2012. Interestingly, broiler surpassed beef in term of consumption in 2009.

There were small changes in the amount of pork and turkey consumption. Pork decreased slightly from 50 pounds in 1955 to around 40 pounds in 2012. Average person in US consumed less and more 10 pounds in given time.
