The graph illustrates recycling rates of the waste in United States from the year 1960 to 2011.
In 1960, recycling rate stood at 6.4 percentage which was witnessed with an slight increment of 0.4 percentage till 1970. There was a gradual increase of 5.5 percentage in next 15 years.On the other hand, total waste recovery encounter in 1960 was 5.6 million tons which then rose to thrice of it in 25 years.
After 1985, there was a significant rise in waste recovery which was around 33.2 million tons with the highest difference of 16.5 among all. Along with it, recycling rate showed minor increment from 1985 to 1990. At the end of 2011, total waste recovery was 86.9 million tons and recycling rate was 34.7 percentage.
Thus, total waste recovery and recycling percentage showed progress and it was continued till 2011. However, the total amount of waste recovered was comparatively less then the total amount of waste present.
