This graph shows that there is an equal amount of participation in women's sports compared to men and we still can't have equality in sports.

Given is the bar chart illustrating a certain striking difference between the amount of participation in women's sports and men's sports during the period of time from 1971 to 2011 (information taken from USC & Purdue sociologists 20-year studying). Overall, there is an upward trend in college female athletes throughout the period of time while the number of college male athletes fluctuate, in addition, the number of men athletes and the number of women athletes both reached a peak in the period of 2010-2011.
In terms of female athletes, the number climbed significantly from 1971 to 1986. In the period of 1976-1977, the number of participants was two times higher than that in the period of 1971-1973. After slowing down the speed of rising (from 1987 to 1992), the number continued increasing considerably from 1996. From 2001 to 2011 this number experienced another remarkable increase and jump over the limit of 150,000. In terms of male athletes, after a fluctuation had been witnessed during the period from 1971 to 1992, this number of participation went up gradually from 1992 to 2011. However, the male participants each period was higher than 150,000.
In conclusion, although there were fluctuations in the number of male participation, this number each period of the year was still higher than 150,000. It's interesting to note that men seem to be more interested in sports than women.
