Overall, there was an upward trend in the number of people holding the UK’s passport. Meanwhile, the number of asian, african and european immigrants in britain experienced a significant increase, in contrast to the figure for America, Australia and others.
Increasing from approximately 20 thousand in 1972 to about 38 thousand in the following one decades, the number of people obtained UK’s citizenship then levelled off at around 37 thousand in 1982. This was followed by a moderate growth to approximately 50 thousand in 1992 before reaching the peak number at roughly 110 thousand people owning the UK’s nationality in the last reported year.
Moving to bar charts, 49 thousand asian moved to Britain in 1996, climbing by 9 thousand in 2002. Both European and African immigrants shared a similar figure (9 thousand) in the initial year. The figure for European tripled in 1992, while the Asian inclined of about 16 thousand. In contrast, the number for immigrants from American, Australian and others commenced at 5 thousand in 1996, falling by 20% in the six following years.
