The given bar chart illustrates the proportion of households which were possessioned or rented in England and Wales over the period 90 years from 1918 to 2011. Overall, it is clear that the percentage of rented accommodation showed downward trends compared with owned ones during the aforementioned period.
In 1918, just over 20 percent of England and Wales' citizens possessed their own houses, whereas slightly less than 80 percent of them was being in rented flats. However, the following 50 years showed opposite trends as the percentage of rented accommodation decreased significantly to 20 percent by the 1961. In contrast the rates of owned houses experienced huge increase to 50 percent by the same. It is interestengly, that 1971 demonstrated the similar marks in two types of living in households. After reaching similarities, the trends continue their trends. The proportion of household ownership reached a peak of at 70 percent in 1991 and was in this figure for the next 10 years. Meanwhile, the rates of rented households bottomed down in the same period of time.
