The chart provides information about the number of students and the portion of male qualifiers achieving English training certifications in two periods 2007/8 and 2008/9 in the United Kingdom.
Overall, the total students sit and qualified in both qualifications remained almost the same throughout the period in the UK. However, male certificates holder showed a clear decreasing trend in all categories.
Observing the data from TEFL, in 2007/8, the total number of test-taker was over 25000, while over 18000 attendances were female, the opposite sexed peers accounted for just 26.9%. In 2008/9, the total number remained around 25000 qualifiers. In addition, the number of both qualified male and female students stayed unchanged, despite 0.7% drop in men’s portion in 2008/9.
Turning to Cambridge UCLES CELTA and other degrees, in the UK, its total qualified attendance were significantly less than TEFL’s in the given period, with approximately 8000 students. However, the number of its qualifiers experienced slight increase throughout the given period, although qualified men’s proportion dropped from 17.3% to 12.1%.
