The line graph compares the proportion of visitors to England who went to four different attractions in Brighton from 1980 to 2010.
At glance at the graph provided reveals that the percentage of tourists who visited the Pier and the Pavilion increased over the the given period while the figure for the other attractions showed the reverse.
Increasing from approximately 22% in 1980 to 38% in 1985, the proportion of travellers going to the Art Gallery then plunged to a low of just 8% in 2010, which was the lowest point of the whole graph. In 1980, 30% of tourists to England went to the Festival. Then it fell to around 24% in 1995 before rising steadily to about 28% at the end of the period.
Over the same period, the rate of visitors who visited the Pavilion varied significantly. It climbed sharply from almost 24% in 1980 to 48% in 1995, which was the highest point of the whole line graph, followed by a rapid decline to 30% in 2010. The Pier accounted for the lowest number of tourists with only 10% in 1980. It increased to 15% in 1985, but this then dropped gradually to less than 10% in 1990. This was followed by a period of exponential growth, with the figure for tourists reaching a peak of somewhere in the vicinity of 22% in 2010.
