A lot of places in the world rely on tourism as a main source of income. Unfortunately, tourism can also be a source of problems if it is not managed correctly. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of tourism in the modern world. Do you think that benefits of tourism outweigh its drawbacks?
Over the past centuries, service industries such as tourism have been thriving and amending thanks to the advancement and revolution of human beings. While there is no denying that such development played a huge role in boosting the national economy, issues around pollution have also bothered local residents in many ways. However, it is clear that the demerits tourism brings about are eclipsed by the merits it offers.
Reasonably observed by local people in Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam, the pollution rate in the region has emerged dramatically due to a boom in holiday makers appealing to visiting places of interest. It is not hard to acknowledge the increase in litter and emissions left by tourists being the catalyst for a dense and contaminated atmosphere throughout the surroundings. This not only gives rise to the deterioration in the quality of citizens’ life but also causes severe degradation to tourist attractions as well as landscapes around the city.
Despite the mentioned drawbacks, an influx of travelers in a certain country surprisingly appears to have positive influences since a growth in economical profits was observed over the past decades. From a poor country where the majority of citizens could not manage to make ends meet around the years of the 70s, Vietnam has taken advantage of its glamorous scenery and its long coastline as a key to develop wonderful tourist destinations for foreign visitors. As a result, the country apparently seems to be flourishing rapidly and relying significantly on tourism as its main source of income.
All things considered, even though the state of ill-managed tourism might lead to pollution-related problems, there is no doubt that it guarantees the prosperity of a country where it is well developed. Therefore, I am of the opinion that the aforementioned issue is at the expense of greater benefits.
