The given maps illustrate the transformation that occurred in the town of Harborne between 1936 and 2007.
Overall, the town witnessed some radical changes with the larger residential area and less green space.
In the northwestern part of the map, most of the trees were cut down and to the southwest, the cycle path was rebuilt and enlarged into a roadway. In the center of the town, the sweet shop and butchers were merged and converted into a supermarket while the post office remained. On the opposite side, whereas the bank and the library were stayed unchanged, the flower shop was replaced by the travel agent. In the center of the downtown, there was an appearance of a shopping center, occupied most of the open space there.
Looking at the east side of the map, we can see that the river was turned into a lake and a large residential area was built on its shore. In the southeast of the map, the farmland was transformed into a golf course while the government offices became a museum.
