The pie chart below shows the main reasons why agricultural land becomes less productive. The table shows how these causes affected three regions of the world during the 1990s
The pie graph illustrates the main causes of land degradation while the table provides the three regions affected by these causes during the 1990s. it can be seen that the over-grazing became the most affecting cause of degraded land, and the Europe land degraded more than two other regions.
To begin, there are four causes of farmland degradation: over-grazing, over-cultivation, deforestation, and other causes. However, over-grazing represented the highest proportion at just over one third. The logging resulted the percentage of 30%, and over-planting activities stood inferior to deforestation at just over a quarter. Other causes only affected less than 10% overall.
Supporting the pie graph, the deforestation was seen in the table as the main reason of farmland degradation in The Europe which stood at the peak as their land degraded for 23%. Resulting 13% of land degradation, the south pacific islands, including Australia and New Zealand, became the second victim with the over grazing as the main cause. As the least, the North America’s land was mostly deteriorated due to the over-cultivation issue.
