The pie charts represent the changes with the proportion of housing ownership and renting between 1991 and 2007.
Overall, the total number of houses available increased from 22 million houses in 1991 to 27 million houses in 2007. It is interesting to note that, the proportion of home ownership increased substantially while social renting and social housing reduced in its portion except for private renting.
In 1991, home ownership were the most popular type of housing, accounting for 60%, followed by social renting which amounting of nearly 23% of total houses and the remaining portion was directed to private rent (about 11%) and social housing (of about 6%).
In contrast, by 2007, the proportion of home ownership rose substantially to 70%, which represent 10% of growing rates. However, the rest of housing types decreased; social renting of 17% and social housing of 2%. Meanwhile, privately rented homes had remained unchanged at 11%.
