The pie charts illustrate the primary reasons why people came and left the UK in 2007.
At first glance, it can be easily seen that jobs were the main factor for these movements. A significant proportion of 30% of people entered the country wanting to have a definite job and emigration showed a similar figure of 29%. Besides this reason, joining with family members also influenced the number of people immigrating to the UK the same way it affected people’s decision to leave (15% for immigration and 13% for emigration).
Unlike these two mentioned causes, the search for job varied from charts with 12% coming to the UK for this purpose whereas a fifth of people decided to emigrate. People also move to the country for their formal study. With the share of 26%, it contributed as one of the main cause for the movement. However, just a small minority of 4% left for the same purpose. People that gave other reasons or none at all accounted for 34% of emigration but under a fifth of immigration.
