Essay topics:

The table and charts show some information about different sports in one country.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

The table provides figures for attendance and revenues of four sports in one country while the pie charts break down the sources of earnings for two of the four, namely ice hockey and football.

From the table, it can be seen that while the differences in the number of attendees may be vast, those in total earnings are not as broad. Baseball attracts up to 73 million attendees, which were more than the combined number of attendees showing up to see basketball, ice hockey (both at 22 million) and football (17 million). However, while football tops the total revenue list with 13 billion, baseball earns only 10 billion, which doubles basketball' earnings. Ice hockey only earns 4 billion, the least of the four.

From the pie charts, it seems different sources of revenues may influence the net earnings of the sports. While most of ice hockey's revenue comes from tickets (46%), football earns 38% of its money via TV, which only takes up nearly 20% for that of ice hockey. Also, whereas sponsorship only accounts for a little over one tenth of the former's money, it is responsible for bringing in nearly one quarter of the latter's. The reversed pattern is observed for the contribution of concessions.
