This table illustrates, analytical comparison of net expenditure by a consumer on three categories,T in five different countries during the year 2002. On the first look, it is evident that Turkey was the most expensive of all five countries, whereas Sweden was the most economic in 2002.
To begin with, in Turkey edibles and tobacco accounted for almost one third of an individual's expenditure, followed by Ireland at 28.91%. In Spain, Italy food, drinks and tobaccos were less expensive at 18.80% and 16.36% respectively. Whilst, in Sweden 15.77% was spent on food stuff and smoking.
Furthermore, Italy stood at the top in clothing and footwear at 9%. In Ireland , Turkey, and Spain individuals spent almost similar ratio on clothing and footwear. However, Sweden required the least expenditure in this category, 5.40%. Moreover, education and leisure activities were most economic in Spain at about 1.98% of the total and the rest of the four countries showed relatively similar ratio in education and leisure.
