The table gives information about imprisonment in the 1930-1980 year period among the five countries.
As regards, the first, in 1930 Canada had the most imprisonments with 120,000 people, while Great Britain had the least and increased gradually in the following years till the number reached nearly 85,000. Meanwhile, in Canada, the number of imprisonments fluctuated throughout the period. However, the number has decreased and in 1980, Canada did not have the most imprisonments anymore.
The USA and New Zealand had 100 thousand imprisonments in 1930, later the USA followed the opposite trend with Canada, they both fluctuated but in the USA the trend was upwards. So, in 1980 the USA had the most imprisonments with 140 thousand.
Imprisonments in Australia decreased from 70,000 to 50,000 then increased to 80,000 when it became the same number as New Zealand in 1970. However, in 1980 the number of imprisonments decreased in Australia to 50,000 again while New Zealand’s continued to increase slightly to 85,000.
