Clearly, people over 29 show a higher rate of obesity than young adults between 18-29, and this trend continued over the period. In addition, figures for middle-aged adults was the highest at both the beginning and end of the period
Looking at the detail, as regards for middle-aged adults: having remained stable just under 20% over the first five years of the period, the figures rocketed reaching over 35% in 1999. Despite another stable period from 1999 to 2003, figures went up significantly to 40% in 2005. The similar upward trend could be observed among old adults. It started from 18% and remained consistent until 1976. In 1999, the percentage of obesity rate was at 36% -which was double what it had been in 1976. After that, figures are unchanged until the end of the period.
By contrast, regarding people between 18-29 and 30-44, differences between their obesity rates were around 6% over the two decades. Figures for them were approximately 8% and 15% respectively from 1971 to 1976. Subsequently, there was a surge in the percentage of people who suffered from obesity between 18-29 and 30-44 reaching about 25% and 20% at the end of 1999. Then the figures for them grow gradually until the end of the period, at which point it reached 25% and 40% respectively
