The stipulated charts below shows the information regarding the sale of fair-trade labelled coffee and bananas in 1999 and 2004 in EU nations. The mentioned parameters are UK, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium and Sweden.
it is clear from the data that, Coffee sales were increased in all the five countries. One important point to be noted that, Coffee sales in England were increased by almost 10 fold within a short span of 5 years of time. The consumption was hiked from just 1.5 million Euros to 20 million Euros. Switzerland also showed the same upward trend but not that much as UK's. In Switzerland the demand for coffee was almost doubled and achieved 6 million Euros of trade in 2004. Other three countries Denmark, Belgium and Sweden showed a decent increase of 0.2 million, 0.7 million and 0.2 million respectively.
On the other hand, the business of fair- trade labelled bananas showed almost similar trend. Just like the coffee trade, Switzerland and Great Britain consumed the most. Switzerland consumption volume almost raised thrise (47 million euros) as compared to previous figures. Likewise, UK's sales reached not so high as volume of 5.5 million. Belgium also showed the three fold rise in purchase of bananas. Whereas, In Sweden and Denmark , people lost their interest in bananas and showed a decline in it's sales by 0.8 million and 1.1 million respectively.
In conclusion, the demand for coffee continued on a rise in all the European continents. While, the popularity of banana was declined in countries like Sweden and Denmark.
