UK telephone calls by category 1995 2002

The bar chart provides information on the total duration of calls through three different methods in the United Kingdom between 1995 and 2002. In general, local calls on fixed lines is preferred over the others throughout the time under study.

To begin with, in 1995, the overall duration of local calls on fixed line stood at slightly above 70 billion minutes(units), before steadily increasing until the year 1999, when it reached a peak of roughly 90 units. Subsequently, the figure slowly declined for the remainder of the period, ending up at its 1995’s figure in 2002. Meanwhile, calls from mobile users accounted for a modest duration of merely 5 units, followed by a slow growth in the next four years, with the number standing at about 10 units in 1999. After that, the remaining time witnessed an upsurge in the figure, peaking at between 40 and 50 units at the end of the period.

Inspecting the statistics of national and international calls on fixed lines, it is obvious that the total duration of calls showed a rather slow, but steady upward trend in seven years. To be specific, starting at just under 40 units, the figure continuously went up throughout the period and reached its highest point of 60 units in 2002.
In summary, as is shown in the chart, the figure for the category of local – fixed line remained unchanged after going up and down, while both two other figures witnessed a rising trend. Yet, the former still appeared to be preferred over the others.
