Write a short report for a university lecturer describing the changes in water supply and sanitation in urban and rural areas between 1980 and 1990. To what extent did the UN achieve its aims?
The table gives information about the modification rate of the water system and sanitation in the rural and urban areas between the year 1980 and 1990. Overall, there was only minor changes on both the supply and level of potability of water in the cities after a decade.
In 1980, 70% of the urban districts had an access to water supply in which only a very minimal improvement was noted ten years after. On the other hand, the countryside only had approximately 25% of the area that had an access to water system, these was almost 50% less than that of the initial value of the towns. However, by the end of the study the number doubled from its original figure.
Moreover, the urban communities on the first year of the study had a water sanitation level of nearly 60% and by the year 1990 it slightly increased by roughly 2 %. Meanwhile, the suburban had only more than 10% clean drinking water in the year 1980, which was 50% less than that of the cities on the same year. by the end of the study no change was observe
In conclusion, the rural places had the lowest figures for availability of water source and access to safe drinking water. In addition, after the ten- year program of the United Nation, their was only partially met.
