The two given charts illustrate the distribution of energy use in Australian households on average and the proportions of greenhouse gas emissions that these purposes bring about. It can be seen clearly from the charts that heating and water heating are the most common types of consumption and thus are the major causes of the emitted greenhouse gases.
Regarding the energy used in Australian homes, cooling, lighting, and refrigeration account for relatively small proportions with 2%, 4%, and 7% respectively. Meanwhile, heating and water heating are the two giant purposes that take up 42% and 30% of the energy demand. Other household amenities consume 15% in total.
Turning to the corresponding gas emissions of the mentioned factors, water heating is still the major contributor making up nearly one-third whereas heating only releases 15% of the amount of emitted gases. Cooling (3%) and lighting (8%) remain the smallest percentages, but other appliances turn out to be the leading culprit for greenhouse gas emissions.
