The line graph illustrates the unemployment rates which include both rural and urban areas in the year 2012 in Australia.
Overall, there were more people in rural areas who were jobless than their counterparts in urban areas for any quarter of the year 2012. However, it was evident that although the unemployment rates from the rural area were high, they decreased at the end of the period, while for the urban population it rose.
The unemployment rate of rural inhabitants was highest in the first quarter of 2012 and it was recorded at 6.5%. This figure showed a gradual decrease and went down to the lowest level of 4.5% in the third quarter. Following the third quarter, the unemployment rate fluctuated for a while before reaching 5% at the end of the fourth quarter.
On the other hand, only just above 2% of the population in urban areas were without a job in the first quarter which rose steadily and became double at the end of the second quarter. Surprisingly, after that, this rate sharply dropped and hit the initial number again before increasing to the peak of around 5% at the end of the fourth quarter.
