The use of social media is replacing face-to-face interaction among many people in society. Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

You should write at least 250 words.

With the advent of technology, people from the modern era have slightly changed their way of interaction. Maximum use of social media and chatting has substituted the culture of meeting and conversing in person. Some think this is the development of a good culture while others think it is not. In this essay, I will discuss both the issues and mention why the cons of the use of social media outweigh its pros.

The use of social networking sites for day-to-day conversation does not possibly bring intimacy and closeness in relationships. Social media is certainly a virtual world and we as a human being are always in search of love through touch and feel and simply exchanging wished through messages is not going to make any relation intimate. I, for instance, feel really overwhelmed on my birthdays if my friends walk in and wish me rather than sending me a text via messenger or WhatsApp. Thus, it is significantly important to understand that having a conversation in person makes a great difference.

Similarly, barely having a face-to-face conversation could make a person anxious. We are a social being, who, are supposed to be within a society but with the expansion of technology we hardly see our friends. Not having two-way interaction and playing with thoughts could possibly lead to isolation and anxiety. The University of New England, for example, found in their one research that more than 50 per cent of students not interacting with others were found to have a high level of anxiety. So, it is always good to have a sound conversation with people around in person.

In conclusion, face-to-face interaction becoming replaced by the use of social media has become a major concern these days. Even though, social media may save a certain amount of time, its advantages of making relation and mental state stronger cannot be ignored.
