4. It is becoming increasingly popular to have a year off between finishing school and going to university. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this?
Nowadays, taking a year gap after finishing high school is at a mammoth rate. Once the kids finish high school, they are more likely to take a year gap before going to university, which can be helpful for them as they need some time off from studying. It could also have some evil effects on the teenagers.
Taking a gap between successfully finishing high school and going to university, have some advantages. Finishing high school with an excellent academic average is not just a piece of cake; it is a tough job to do and could have some kids bent over backward. Youngsters, who work really hard and achieve good grades, need a break from studies to recharge their brain and heart because they have been carrying stress on their heads throughout their high school career and thereby need some time before they can continue to study. Taking a break from schooling, can help the teenagers spend some time with their families, do volunteering hours in the community, and enjoy with their peers. Some universities, for instance, York University in Toronto, allow their students to take a year break; while the other universities require their students to reapply for the university after the gap. Although some parents might worry about their kid’s grades if they take the gap, students should be able to make smart choices as they are mature high school graduates.
Similarly, there are some disadvantages that fall under this topic. Even though students are mature enough to make smart choices, as discussed above, it can also be their worst choice. The students might take a one year gap and after their break period finishes, they might make an unexpected choice of not continuing their studies any further. This could extinguish their parent’s dream of seeing them grow into a successful person. Usually, this occurs when the students find a job to make some money during the break, and end up changing their minds to not continuing their study. These jobs are usually unqualified jobs; for example, a cook, a delivery person, working at grocery stores, and parallel jobs like that. Nonetheless, this issue only takes place in rare cases.
To sum up, taking one year of a gap between finishing up high school and the university could be beneficial for various reason. It can help them refresh their mind after a really stressful high school career to get ready for university. In addition, they can also do things like volunteering and make money from a part-time job. Nevertheless, doing part-time jobs might influence their plan for studying ahead; youths might get lazy and choose not to go to university.
