Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The figure demonstrates the difference in the proportion of households that are owned and the ones rented in two countries of the United Kingdom, namely, England and Wales between the years 1918 and 2011.
It is overt in the picture that people reduced renting accommodation and augmented the ownership of households during the period on the study. Specifically, the percentage of households that are owned increased from around 22 % to almost 70 % till 2001. It seems the owned accommodations decreased from the start of the 21st century till the next decade to about 65 %. However, the trend to rent accommodations saw a steep decrease of about 45 % during the 20th century and increased to almost 38 % in the decade from 2001 to 2011.
On an interesting note, the percentage of households that are rented and owned was equal to 50 % in 1971. Moreover, looking at the trend in the decade after the 21st century, as the proclivity to own a house decreased, the proportion of rented housing increased.
To sum up, it can be inferred from the diagram, as people started to own houses, the idea to rent accommodation has reduced throughout the century.
