The provided line graph demonstrates the proportion of population living in urban areas in four Asian countries within the timeframe from 1970 to 2020, with predictions for 2030 and 2040. Overall, the percentage of population of city citizens in these investigated areas witness a remarkable upward trend throughout the period. It can also be seen that Malaysia becomes the highest figure among four countries at the end of the survey.
With regard to Indonesia, in 1970, the city population accounted for around 13% of total population. Almost half of the population in 2020 lived in the city before the figure potentially increases by approximately 18%, reaching 60% in 2040. Similarly, the figure for Malaysia substantially rises throughout the period. In 1970, the percentage of city population was about 19%. The proportion then rose remarkably and reached 72% in 2020 before reaching four-fifths, 82% in 2030, 2040 respectively.
As for Philippines, the year 1980 witnessed a surge of 17%. After that, the figure decreased slightly and reached 42% in 2010 before increasing to 55% in 2040. Likewise, the percentage of city citizens in Thailand records fluctuation. From 1970 to 1990, an increase by 10% was seen. Then, the figure remained stable at around 30% for 30 years, from 1990 to 2020. It is predicted that it will rise considerably to 46% in 2040.
