The line graph illustrates the carbon dioxide emissions on average in the 4 countries from 1967 to 2007.
Overall, Italy and Portugal had increased tendencies, while the UK and Sweden showed the contrast. Besides, the United Kingdom produced the biggest amount of CO2 emissions during the 40-year period, as opposed to Portugal, where the average CO2 people emitting account for the least in the same time.
As can be seen from the graph, the United Kingdom reached a plateau at nearly 11 metric tonnes in the first three years. Subsequently, the figure went down markedly and reached approximately 9 metric tonnes in 2007. As regards Sweden, there was an upward trend observed between 1967 and 1977, which it reached a peak at just over 10 metric tonnes in 1977. Then, the figure dramatically dropped until 1987, followed by a noticeably decline until 2007.
In contrast, there were upward trends in Italy and Portugal. In 1967, the average CO2 people emitting in Italy was 4 metric tonnes, whereas, in Portugal, the figure was by half the Italy. The figures for both countries rose remarkably during the period. From 1997 to 2007, the figure of Italy stayed constant, while the Portugal one observed a slight increase and reached nearly 5.5 metric tonnes in 2007.
