The given graph depicts the average carbon dioxide (CO2) emission per person, between the years 1967 and 2007 for 4 countries viz. the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal.
Based on the information provided, the carbon dioxide emission per person in Sweden went up from a little over 8 metric tons in 1967 to a little over 10 metric tons in 1977. However, post this rise in the first decade, it has consistently tapered down during the subsequent 3 decades. Coming down to under 8 in 1987, further coming down to about 6 in 1997 and finally under 6 in 2007.
On the contrary, Italy and Portugal have seen a persistent rise for the entire duration of 4 decades. The carbon dioxide emission rose from about 4 to almost 8 for Italy, whereas, it rose from under 2 to almost 6 for Portugal. The United Kingdom, on the other hand, observed a consistent gradual decrease of the emission per person. During these 4 decades, the emission came down from over 10 to over 8 for the United Kingdom.
In a nutshell, the United Kingdom has been the best performer by persistently bringing down the emissions. Portugal also has been a good performer by keeping the emissions comparatively lower, though it demonstrated an upward trend.
