Essay topics:

The local council has decided to build a block of flats on the park opposite the place where you are living
Write a letter to the editor of the local newspaper:
- Where did you hear this news and your opinion?
- The reason why you protest it
- Make suggestions for what people can or should do to stop the development
You should write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write your address or the address of the newspaper.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to your newspaper to protest about the proposed development of Central Park opposite to where I live. The council has written to us that they have planned to construct a huge 10 storey block of flats from next year. I strongly condemn the plan, so as other neighbors in my area.

This park is the only green place in our area. Our children would lose their playground if council goes ahead with the plan. Moreover, we are running a horticulture business to promote organic vegetables which employ 10 people today. Due to council‘s decision of constructing a giant concrete structure, our business will be shut down, thus people will lose their jobs. I understand a new housing place is required but not at the cost of destroying greener pastures.

If you agree with my opinion, please publish an article in your newspaper about current development. Perhaps, we can ask people by signing a public petition for additional support.

Please take necessary action and feel free to write to me to discuss further, if needed.

Yours sincerely,
Peter Jacob
