The process of producing edible oils and fats, and margarine
The diagram illustrates numerous steps of how edible oils and fats, and margarine are produced.
As can be seen in the diagram that raw materials such as sunflower seeds, coconuts and peanuts are transported by cargo ships to silos where it is stored for next step. From the silo, all materials are crushed and milled into small pieces. After that, it goes to the pressing section to extract oil from these materials. Then, the extracted oil is filtered to remove some impurities after the pressing section before it is steamed for several hours.
After having been steamed, the filtered oils can be categorized in three different types: sunflower oil, coconut oil and refined oils. Then, the end-product is packed in various way such as bottles and cans. After that, it is transported by trucks to supermarkets where consumers can buy.
Overall, the whole process of making edible oils and fats consists eight complex steps, from collecting raw materials to shipping the final products to supermarkets.
